Local impact
A LocalDutch hub combines fresh food production and retail with a role in the surrounding region. The focus is on local participation, a resilient food supply, access to fresh produce and economic activity.
Part of the neighbourhood
Each LocalDutch hub is intended to be operated by people with a connection to the area, with jobs for local residents and a place for local products. Seeing where food is grown and knowing the people behind it can make the food system more familiar and accessible.
Local opportunities
The ambition is to create around ten local jobs per LocalDutch hub and a business opportunity for a local entrepreneur. Working with nearby growers, producers and service providers can create further opportunities and help retain more spending and value in the region.
Resilient food supply
Producing closer to customers reduces dependence on long supply chains. Controlled growing conditions and planning around local demand can help make supply more predictable. The operating model is designed to use land, water and energy efficiently and limit avoidable transport and waste.
Access to fresh food
LocalDutch aims to make fresh, nutritious produce a practical part of everyday shopping. Combining growing and retail at one location brings food closer to the communities it serves. The LocalDutch hub can also provide a setting for education about growing, food and nutrition.
